You will need:
8 small apples (I used Fuji)
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup filtered water
1 tsp ground cinnamon
a dash of ground cloves
A slow cooker
To make:
Prepare the apples by coring and cutting into quarters. *see note
Add all ingredients into the slow cooker. Cover and set to high for 3.5-4 hours. The total time will vary so i suggest checking the apples at 3 or so hours. The apples should be very soft and mushy.
Remove apples from slow cooker with caution and add into a high speed or immersion blender. Blend for 1 minute until smooth.
Add mixture back into the slow cooker. With lid off, cook on high for one hour.
After the hour is finished, stir the mixture and set on low for an additional hour with lid off.
Let cool before putting butter into a jar.
*Notes*
You do not need to remove the skins of the apples. Just ensure they are washed well.
You can use any variety of apples
I did not add any sugar into this recipe so the end result will be tart. If you like sweet, I suggest adding sugar of choice.
The apple butter will last up to 1 week in the fridge. Store in a sealed glass jar.
